Socket Set Screws are used in securing a pulley or gear to the shaft. They go flush with the surface which provide minimal imbalance to the rotating part or assembly. Socket set screws can successfully hold against heavy-torque applications if the design is right. generally the shaft would have a flat machine notch or surface or a small groove where the grub screw will seat when fully tightened.

The screws are fully threaded all along the body with much higher stability for holding the outer or inner object of the component to which it is connected.
